Emerging story
On Facebook and Twitter, a widely shared photo appears to show people queuing to buy fuel in Paris, the French capital.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The photo is, in fact, old and shows people waiting in line to get gasoline to run their generators in Clifton, Staten Island, New York, on November 1, 2012.
Misbar's team found a second photo, which was published by a global website on November 2, 2012. The photo also shows people who lined up for fuel after Hurricane Sandy caused damage to Staten Island, at the time.
This allegation circulated along with the publication of French reports indicating a sharp rise in fuel prices in France as a result of the military operation launched by Russia against Ukraine at the end of February.
