A photo of former President Donald Trump holding a T-shirt with the phrase "I am with Putin" has been circulating on Twitter.

Misbar investigated the circulated claim and found it to be fake. The photo is fabricated and does not depict former President Donald Trump's support for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The photo was taken during President Trump's Christmas celebration with the Russian ice hockey player Alexander Ovechkin on December 25, 2019. The Washington Capitals player had presented Trump with a T-shirt bearing his name.
It is worth noting that Trump described President Putin as “smart”, and Western leaders as “dumb”. According to Trump, Russia would not have attacked Ukraine if he were president.
In Trump’s words, the Russian president took advantage of President Biden's weaknesses and attacked Ukraine. Trump adds that "Putin is manipulating Biden as he wants."
