Misbar's investigation found that the circulating claim is misleading. The image is actually old and was originally published by Russian-Language Media on December 22, 2015. Originally, the photo showed that a Russian plane had been shot down on the Syrian-Turkish borders. While Misbar's team was unable to confirm the location or date of the photo, Misbar asserts that the photo does not depict a Russian plane that was recently shot down by the Ukrainian army.
As the Russian war on Ukraine continues, this allegation emerged after the Ukrainian army announced that it had shot down a Russian aircraft in Kharkiv.
