Emerging story
Social media users claimed that Bob Chapek, the CEO of the Walt Disney Resort in Florida, was arrested on human trafficking charges.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be fake. No reliable news outlet reported the arrest of Bob Chapek. However, CBS News did report that law enforcement had arrested 108 people in an undercover human trafficking operation in Florida, which included four employees of the Disney Resort. Out of the four employees, two worked in IT, one in a restaurant at the resort, and one was a lifeguard. No high-ranking employees were reported to have been arrested.
Misbar's team also found that the source of the claim, an article published by Vancouver Times, is a satirical article.
Although the article was published as a satirical piece, internet users shared it as a real claim. Based on its team’s investigation, Misbar asserts that the claim is fake and that Chapek was not arrested for human trafficking.
