Emerging story
Social media users have recently circulated a picture that purports to show the landing of an Israeli plane in the Iraqi city of Erbil.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulated image and found the claim to be fake. In 2016, a FlyErbil aircraft made its first flight to Europe, as seen in the original picture. The original image was edited, with the FlyErbil logo replaced by an Israel Airlines logo.
The image is being circulated after several sites in Erbil were targeted by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on March 13. The attack caused substantial damage within residential areas in the city, according to local authorities. The sites were suspected to be "Israeli military bases." International calls have been made to open an investigation into this incident.
In response to recent reports of an Israeli plane landing at Erbil Airport, the airport's director told Baghdad Today that "what was circulated on social media regarding the landing of an Israeli aircraft at Erbil International Airport is incorrect."
