A video shows the first use of Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal missile in March 2022.

Emerging story

A video which alleges to show the first use of Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal, also known as “Dagger,” was recently shared on social media. 

In one of the most shared tweets, the captions claims: “Video making the rounds this am, reports that it is first combat use of Russian hypersonic missile - Kinzhal on a weapons depot near the Polish border.”

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. Although Misbar's team was unable to find the precise location of where the video was shot, the team asserts that the video is older than claimed. 

Whereas Russia announced that it had used the missile for the first time on March 19, the video was posted online on February 28. 

The video sharing website “Coup” shows that the video was shared before March 19. The video was also posted on TikTok on February 28, as can be seen below.
