Emerging story

Social media users shared a photo of a helicopter lifting a tractor, claiming that it depicts NATO airlifting anti-tank supplies to Ukrainian farmers recently.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. Using Google Image Reverse Search, it was discovered that the photo first appeared on the internet in November 2020. The photo shows an "Indian Air Force" helicopter, despite the fact that India is not a NATO member.

The photo was published on a website by Mahindra Tractors, an Indian tractor manufacturer. It depicts an Indian Air Force helicopter carrying a Mahindra Tractor to highlight the company's role in the country's defense.

Using keywords on Twitter search, we found out that Mahindra Tractors and Anand Mahindra, The Mahindra group also tweeted the photo in November 2020 with the caption:  “A tough flight which only Mahindra Tractor can dare dream of @ 11,000 ft. Any guesses which part of the world it is?”

Based on these findings, it was determined that the photo circulating is not related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The photo was shared by an Indian tractor manufacturer earlier in 2020.
