Emerging story
Social media users recently shared CNN's report that Russian President Vladimir Putin delayed the Russian army's entry into Kyiv until U.S. President Joe Biden finished supplying weapons to Ukraine so they could seize it.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar's investigation found the circulating news false because neither CNN nor any other official source had reported it. CNN reported dozens of stories in Arabic and English about the Russian-Ukrainian war and Russian President Putin. Yet, no statement attributed to intelligence sources was found on their official website.
The fake claim surfaced amid ongoing clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces since the start of the military operation, which Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, with Russian shelling targeting Kyiv's capital.
U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in the southeastern Polish city of Rzeszów on Friday, March 25, about 100 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border. Biden previously stated that if Russia used chemical weapons in Ukraine, NATO would "respond" without specifying the nature of the response.
