Misbar’s team investigated the circulated claim and found it fake. In a tweet it published on its Twitter account, the Polish embassy in Rabat denied the alleged news that it plans to open a consulate in Western Sahara.

The claim started to circulate following the European Commission’s announcement on March 21 that it supports Spain’s latest stance in support of Western Sahara’s autonomous self-rule in Morocco.

On Friday, March 18, the Spanish foreign minister announced that his country considers Morocco-presented 2007 self-rule initiative to be the most serious, realistic, and credible basis for resolving the conflict between Rabat and the Polisario Front in Western Sahara.
