On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, accounts and pages on social media were circulating an image that claims to show Senegalese fans gathering at the Egypt match stadium hours before the match.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the image and found that it is misleading, as it is old, from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2021 and not of Senegalese fans before the recent match between Egypt and Senegal. The image was published by sites last February showing fans of the Cameroonian national team in the previous AFCON in Cameroon, as seen below.
The circulation of the image coincides with the match between Egypt and Senegal at the Olympic Stadium, in the second leg of the qualifying round for the Qatar 2022 World Cup after the Egyptian team won with a goal in the first leg match that was held at Cairo International Stadium.
