Several websites and social media users have reported that rumors are spreading about U.S. Major General Roger L. Cloutier Jr being captured by the Russian army in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Misbar has investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake.
To begin with, the claim which is being circulated has attributed the wrong title to Roger Cloutier.
By searching for Cloutier’s professional profile on LinkedIn, Misbar’s team found that his title is “LTG,” which means Lieutenant General, and not Major General. The team also discovered that LTG Roger Cloutier’s location is Izmir, Turkey, where he has been working since August 2019.

Misbar’s team also found a LinkedIn post by LTG Roger Cloutier on April 5, 2022, which reads: “Proud to have NATO Allied Land Command host the LOWG in Izmir, Turkey once again. Representatives of 24 allied nations, four partner nations, and members of NATO Command and Force Structure are currently tackling the future challenges of land warfare through discussion, collaboration, and development of land doctrine. The plans we make directly affect our young troops all over the world - we owe them our very best.”
