Emerging story
Several news websites have shared two photos purportedly from the recent floods in Colombia.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the photos and found the claim to be misleading. The two photos are taken before the recent floods in Colombia.
The first photo is from 2017, and it depicts the aftermath of floods that hit Colombia's Mocoa region in April of that year. More than 250 people were killed and hundreds were injured as a result of the flood, which caused landslides.
Description: The photo has been shared by this website back in 2017.
Description: The same photo has also been used by a news website in 2021, which proves that the photo is older than claimed.
The second photo was previously shared in November 2021, purporting to show the aftermath of a landslide caused by heavy rain in the Nario region of western Colombia, killing and injuring dozens.
The photos began to circulate after torrential rain and floods hit Antioquia, northwest Colombia, on April 8, causing landslides. According to Reuters, at least ten people have died and at least 17 others have been injured or missing.
