Emerging story
A photo purportedly showing the aftermath of the missile attack on the Kramatorsk train station in Ukraine on Friday, April 8, has recently circulated on news websites and social media.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The photo shows a demolished building in a village 40 kilometers from Kyiv, Ukraine's capital. Sergei Supinsky, a photographer for the AFP Agency, took the photo on April 2.
The photo was taken on Saturday, April 2, after Ukraine announced that it had regained control of areas around the capital Kyiv following the withdrawal of Russian troops.
The claim was made following a missile attack on the Kramatorsk train station, north of the eastern Ukrainian province of Donetsk, which killed over 52 civilians, including children.
Ukraine accused Russian forces of targeting the train station, knowing civilians were there, but Russia denied the claim and blamed Ukraine for the attack.
