Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it misleading. The photo does not depict Syrian regime prisoners, but rather suspected ISIS members. The photo was taken in July 2017 at a Mosul prison in Iraq.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, there were 102,287 enforced disappearances in Syria by conflict parties between March 2011 and August 2021. However, between March 2011 and March 2020, there were 151,462 cases of arbitrary detention. From March 2011 to March 2020, 14,664 people were killed by torture, including 181 children and 93 women.
