Lagos' Oil Pipeline Explosion in 2008

On May 15, 2008, an oil pipeline explosion killed about 100 people, including children, in the village of Eggon, north of Lagos, Nigeria. The explosion occurred during road construction as a result of the ensuing stampede as people fled from the spreading fire.

The claim began circulating after the blast of an illegal oil refinery on the border of Imo and Rivers states in south-eastern Nigeria. The blast killed about 100 people on Saturday, April 23.
