This Video Shows Jae Deen Performing Umrah, Not Thomas Partey

Misbar investigated the circulated claim and discovered it to be misleading. The video depicts rapper Jae Deen performing Umrah in November 2021, as the video was previously posted on his Instagram account.

Thomas Partey's Conversion to Islam

The widely circulated claim came after it was revealed that Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey had converted to Islam in March, with photos of Thomas Partey and a Sheikh being shared on social media by sports accounts, as seen below. 

A photo of Thomas Partey with the Sheikh was tweeted by "Muslim Hands UK," an international Islamic NGO in London. The photo is accompanied by the caption, "Ghanaian Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has embraced Islam."

According to Al-Shorouk, an online newspaper, the Sheikh in the photo with Thomas Partey is Sheikh Mohammed Al-Azhari, who works as a Ma'adoun Chari—a legally authorized person in the United Kingdom. 

Al-Azhari stated in a special statement to Al-Shorouk, "The player scheduled an appointment with us without revealing his identity in order to maintain privacy, which we respect regardless of whether the person is a public or ordinary figure. He stated that he wanted to embrace Islam, and it is clear that he was familiar with the Islamic religion. Nonetheless, his conversion to Islam surprised everyone."

"Partey has been converted to Islam since February, but we have refrained from publishing anything before receiving his consent," he added.

Who is Thomas Partey? 

Thomas is a 29-year-old Ghanaian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Arsenal in the Premier League.

On his social media accounts, he made no comments about his conversion to Islam.
