Social media users have recently circulated a photo of a child sleeping between two graves. According to the circulating claim, the photo shows a Yemeni child sleeping between his parents’ graves.

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading.

Misbar’s team conducted a reverse image search and found that the photo was first published on January 3, 2014, by the photographer Aziz Alotaibi on Instagram. The Instagram post’s caption reads: “He could not find a dwelling among the living, so he lived between his mother and father.”
In one of his interviews, the photographer clarified that the photo featured his own nephew and was staged as part of a conceptual project with fake graves.
In another interview the photographer emphasized: “Of course, I would never ever put a child between two real graves.”
A behind-the-scenes image also clarifies that the photo was staged and that it had previously been the subject of false claims about a Syrian child.
