Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading, as the two videos are old and do not depict the ongoing protests in Iran.
The first video was previously published in November 2019 and shows protests in Shiraz city in Iran's southwestern Fars province.
The second video was published in July 2021 and shows a protest march in the city of Izeh, located in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province.
2019 Iranian Protests
In November 2019, demonstrations took place in several Iranian cities to protest at least a 50% rise in fuel prices.
At that time, dozens of demonstrators were killed and injured. According to human rights reports and media articles, the death toll over the weeks of the protests may have reached hundreds.
2022 Iranian Protests
Iran has recently witnessed protests in rejection of the government's decision to raise the price of a few food commodities. The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced measures to overcome the country's economic crisis, including increased prices of food commodities.
Demonstrations took place in many Iranian provinces, including Khuzestan province, where the city of Izeh is located.
