Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and discovered it to be misleading, as the video was posted on Twitter on April 24, 2021. As seen in the tweet below, the video depicts clashes between security forces and protesters in front of Iran's Ministry of Mines and Trade.

Furthermore, the Misbar team discovered another video, shot from a different angle and posted on April 24, 2021, of the same protest against Azovico victims who had purchased cars from the company four years earlier but had not received them.

Protests in Iran  in April 2021

Protests erupted on April 24, 2021, as a result of Iranian stock market investors who were encouraged by the government to invest in state-owned stocks. The stock exchange was later allegedly manipulated by the state, and investors lost all of their money. As state security forces attempted to disperse the crowds, the demonstrations escalated into violence.

Iran's Recent Demonstrations

Protests against inflation, particularly the rising prices of certain food items, have been ongoing since Thursday, May 12. Protesters also expressed their opposition to the decision to implement a law amending the monetary aid system, which would reduce commodity subsidies.

According to the findings, the Misbar team confirms that the video is related to the 2021 protest in Iran, and not the recent protests.
