Backlash for U.S Embassy Pride Tweets

The tweets drew condemnation and criticism from two conservative Muslim countries, particularly Kuwait and Bahrain. However, at the time of writing, the tweets remained on the accounts of U.S. embassies and had not been removed.

June is Pride Month

Every June, LGBTQ Pride is held to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots, in which an uprising was staged to "resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBT Americans were frequently subjected." This uprising heralds the start of a movement to make discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans illegal." The month is now observed in many countries around the world.

According to the findings, the Misbar team confirms that the claim is misleading and that U.S. embassies in several Middle Eastern countries did express support via their official Twitter accounts.
