The Claim

The video shows a Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missile recently used to destroy a Ukrainian weapons depot.

Emerging story

Social media users have recently circulated a video claiming it shows a Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missile at 12,000 kilometers per hour and ten times faster than sound, used to destroy a Ukrainian weapons depot 136 meters underground.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake. The video does not show a real-life missile. No credible sources have reported on the destruction of the Ukrainian weapons depot using the video in question.

Visually Generated Video

The video was created using video editing software and visual effects by a visual effects artist known as InsanePatient2. He already posted the video to TikTok with the caption: “What if Russia Started Nuclear War?”

Russia Used Hypersonic Missiles

Russia confirmed in March 2022 that it used hypersonic Kinzhal missiles to destroy a large weapons depot in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine. Russian news outlets have mentioned that it was the first time Russia deployed the Hypersonic Kinzhal system since it sent its troops into Ukraine in February. The underground depot hit by the Kinzhal system housed Ukrainian missiles and aircraft ammunition, Reuters quoted from Russian news agencies. But the circulating video is digitally degenerated and has nothing to do with the incident, and the destruction of the weapons depot is not recent.
