Emerging story
Social media users have widely circulated a video showing an accident at a waterpark. The video purportedly shows a man flying after being sent down a waterslide by a lifeguard. Many social media users shared the video with the caption: “I think I that lifeguard just killed him.”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake.
Using google reverse image search, Misbar’s team was able to trace the original video to a TikTok account under the name “salah-aquaa.”
The original video, which can be seen below, shows that there was no accident after sending the man down the waterslide, which explains the lifeguard’s calm demeanor.
The lifeguard in the video is an Egyptian young man. The original video has 1.3 million views.
Waterslide Safety Regulations
Although the viral video is edited, Misbar found that there might be some safety concerns regarding the way the lifeguard in the video sends people down the waterslide. In many websites, it is mentioned that among the waterslide safety rules, “slide must be ridden feet first lying on your back with legs firmly crossed at the ankles and arms folded across the chest.”
Based on these findings, Misbar confirms that the circulating video is edited and the claim is fake.
