2019 Photo Shared as Recent

After running a Google Image Reverse Search, it turned out that the image is old and unrelated to the ongoing farmers’ protests in the Netherlands. The photo was captured in 2019 by Robin van Lonkhuijsen for the Dutch news agency Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau ANP.

2022 Dutch Farmers’ Protests

According to Reuters, many Dutch farmers were angered by government plans requiring them to use less fertilizer and reduce livestock. Farmers began a day of protests in the Netherlands on Monday, July 4, 2022, by blocking supermarket distribution hubs in several cities.

The government said that emissions of nitrogen oxide and ammonia, which livestock produce, must be drastically reduced close to natural areas that are part of a network of protected habitats. Meanwhile, the farmers asserted these new policies would negatively impact their sector.
