An image purporting to show a shark at flooded Lewisham station has gone viral on social media. The photo, according to social media users, was taken during the recent severe flooding along Australia's southeast coast.

2014 Digitally Altered Photo Shared as 2022 Sydney Floods 

The photo has been digitally altered and was taken prior to the 2022 floods. The original image, according to a reverse image search, does not depict a shark and was published in The Daily Mail in October 2014.

More than 30,000 Sydney residents were ordered to evacuate due to "life-threatening" floods, according to the NSW State Emergency Service website.

Parts of Australia's largest city have been inundated by four major floods since March of last year.

According to the Insurance Council of Australia, the March floods caused $4.8 billion in damage, making it the third most costly natural disaster in the country's history.
