Cristiano Ronaldo Compared to “Homelander”

Misbar’s team found that a video from Amazon Prime’s hit series “The Boys” has been edited to change the face of the character “Homelander” with that of Cristiano Ronaldo. 

The original video from “The Boys” shows the redoubtable character of “Homelander” losing his temper and killing a man. Despite his grave transgression, "Homelander" is warmly applauded by fans afterward.

After conducting an advanced search on Twitter, Misbar’s team found that the original video had been shared on Twitter, with the same satirical claim, before the digitally edited one. On July 25, 2022, a Twitter user shared the clip showing “Homelander” being cheered by fans with a caption that reads: “Ronaldo coming back to hear Viva Ronaldo from the OT faithful after making a mockery of the club and being rejected by every club.”

The satirical comparison mocks Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United after he tried to leave the club, but also humorously teases Manchester United fans who might still support him.

Although the viral video is clearly digitally edited, several Twitter users shared their thoughts on the quality of the editing.

Edited Videos Confusing Internet Users

Following the wide spread of the video, several internet users expressed their thoughts on edited videos and how they can mislead and confuse people. “Technology is becoming more and more futuristic because if I didn’t know the context of this video, I would have thought it was the actual Ronaldo,” a Twitter user wrote.

Other users openly expressed their disdain for edited videos and deepfakes. 

Although several internet users expressed their awe of the digital editing skills shown in the clip, the fact that it has confused some people is problematic as it could mislead people. In fact, several people thought the edited video was genuine.

Ronaldo’s Return to Manchester

There are no updates from Manchester United on Ronaldo's current status at the club following his arrival at the Carrington training base with his agent, Jorge Mendes. United revealed that Ronaldo missed the team's training trips to Thailand and Australia due to "personal reasons."

According to Bloomberg, Ronaldo is reportedly in negotiations with newly-hired manager Erik Ten Hag. Ten Hag has stated repeatedly that he expects Ronaldo to be on the team this season.
