Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. The image is computer generated and does not show the Himalayas from space.

CGI by Christoph Hormann

Using Google reverse image search, Misbar’s team was able to trace the photo to a website of artificial images of Planet Earth called “Views of the Earth.”

The website’s creator describes his work as “a collection of views of the earth surface, generated artificially by use of a computer.” The graphic designer, Christoph Hormann, further explains that he relied on a technique called “raytracing” to make the images appear realistic.
