Emerging story

A photo of José Mourinho shaking hands with Paulo Dybala with the caption "That win was for Palestine" has gone viral on social media.

Users claimed that Mourinho dedicated Roma's victory over Tottenham to Palestine.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be fake.

No official sports news outlets reported that Mourinho dedicated Roma's victory to Palestine.

Harold Cunt, the Twitter user who started the circulating false quote attributed to Mourinho, revealed that the tweet was false a day after it went viral. Thousands of Twitter users liked and retweeted the fake tweet.

Roma's official Twitter account tweeted the photo circulating on July 30, 2022, following their match against Tottenham.

Tottenham vs. AS Roma

The claim emerged following a pre-season friendly match between Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma on Saturday at Haifa's Sammy Ofer Stadium. Tottenham lost 1-0 to Roma.

Online Petition Urges Tottenham to Reconsider Playing in Israel

Many Twitter users condemned the match, stating that Israel is carrying out an illegal occupation against Palestinians.

Hundreds have signed an online petition urging Tottenham to reconsider playing in Israel after the club announced a pre-season friendly against Italian side AS Roma at the Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa.

Despite 1,615 signatures on the petition opposing the Tottenham pre-season tour in Israel, the team still went on their scheduled tour.

The Palestine Amputee Football Association, a group of players who were injured by Israeli snipers and military attacks in Gaza, and the Balata Youth Center, whose 16-year-old player Saeed Odeh was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers also urged the international teams not to play in Israel.
