The photos are outdated (Twitter).

The Claim

The images are from the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Emerging story

Social media users have recently shared a picture claiming it shows a house directly hit in Ashkelon amid Israel's ongoing attacks on Gaza.

Users have also shared another picture and alleged that it is related to the ongoing airstrikes on the Gaza strip.

Meanwhile, other users posted a picture of a little kid crying in front of the camera, with demolished buildings in the background. The image was posted with the hashtag #GazaUnderAttack.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The images are old and unrelated to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The third picture, featuring a little kid crying in front of the camera, is also old. It was taken on January 19, 2009 and uploaded to Alamy Stock Photo. The photo shows a Palestinian boy standing next to his house, destroyed during the Israeli attacks in Jabalya in the northern Gaza Strip on January 19, 2009.

According to the caption, “Israeli forces were pulling out of the Gaza Strip on Monday following a tentative truce with Hamas that allowed Palestinians to take stock of the devastating three-week war.”

Israel Strikes Gaza Again

According to CNN, The Israeli military launched deadly strikes against what it called Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza on Friday, August 5, 2022, as tensions continue to rise between Israel and Palestinian militant groups.

Israel’s airstrikes hit several targets in Gaza, killing at least 11 people, including a 5-year-old girl, a 23-year-old woman. 75 people were also injured, according to The Palestinian health ministry. However, Israel insisted that most of those killed were militants.

The Guardian and other news outlets reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted residential areas in Gaza on Saturday, August 6, flattening at least one home. The reports noted that it is the second day after Israel started what it describes as a “pre-emptive operation” against a Palestinian militant group and confirmed that this is the deadliest escalation of violence since last year’s 11-day war.
