Misbarโ€™s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating photo and found the claim to be misleading.

The photo does not show the final design of the biggest hotel to be built in El Alamein City, Egypt. The photo, in fact, shows a design by the Xcassia company for the spiraling skyscraper known as the โ€œZanzibar Domino Commercial Tower,โ€ which would be built on an artificial island off the coast of Tanzania's Zanzibar Archipelago. Xcassia unveiled the plans for the commercial tower on September 1, 2021.

Zanzibarโ€™s Domino Commercial Tower

The skyscraper, which is expected to cost โ‚ฌ1.1 billion ($1.3 billion), will be built on an artificial island off the west coast of Zanzibar. The enormous 370,000 sqm mixed-use development is expected to rise to the second-tallest building in Africa and the biggest hotel in East and Central Africa. The structure, which is made up of 360 keys that climb to an observation platform at the top, draws its design inspiration from stacked dominoes.

According to Jean-Paul Cassia, founder and design director of Xcassia, โ€œas a legacy project, its story is as unique for the creator as it is for us. First sketched in Paris in 2009 after my late father, two sons, and I played a round of dominos, I dreamed of building this project for over a decade.โ€

The tower is a part of a larger master plan for a 20-hectare, a 4-kilometer-long tourist destination that also includes commercial, residential, and entertainment sections, as well as an island golf resort and a wedding venue on a private islet, all of which are connected by sea bridges. The Zanzibar Domino Commercial Tower will accommodate 560 residential units as well as a 360-key, 5- and 6-star hotel and spa.

Why Will Zanzibar Be the Home of Domino Tower?

Tanzania, one of the most stable nations in Africa, contains the Zanzibar Archipelago.

Zanzibar, formerly known as Spice Island, has evolved into one of the jewels of the Indian Ocean for spending a paradisiacal vacation.

The Domino Tower was first designed for a location in Saudi Arabia and then for Vietnam. The architect who created the concept, Jean-Paul Cassia, states that โ€œboth locations proved inconclusive, however, due to height, budget, marine, and infrastructure constraints.โ€

Africaโ€™s Tallest Building

The New Administrative Capital of Egypt (NAC), a massive new capital city under development on 700 square kilometers of land located approximately 45 kilometers East of Cairo, will be home to the US$3bn, 385.8-meter Iconic Tower. The iconic tower will have 80 floors upon completion.

It was developed by Dar al-Handasah Shair & Partners and the Egyptian Ministry of Housing. The China State Construction Engineering Corporation is in charge of the construction (CSCEC).
