Emerging story
Social media users are circulating news that the Yemeni Houthis are assembling their forces to attack Israel. According to some users, the Houthis are waiting for the final order to join the war against Israel, which is expected to come from Iran.
The claims are accompanied by a video clip purportedly showing the Houthi commander speaking in Arabic while mobilizing his forces and announcing an attack on Israel.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading.
The video depicts the graduation of Yemeni army border guards. Furthermore, the video has been cropped to convey a misleading narrative.
Graduation Ceremony Video Is Cropped
The full graduation ceremony video is nearly an hour long, as shown in the screenshot below.
However, a different version of the clip was found on YouTube, which includes the context of the Armed Forces demonstrations, as shown below.
Yahya Saree, the spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, provides an introduction to the event in the video, which is in Arabic. He explains that this is a graduation ceremony for the Border Guard Forces in Sanaa, Yemen, where over 2000 guards completed their training. He also stated that the Armed Forces are prepared to counterattack their opponents if they are attacked. He also sends a message to Palestinians that the Army is ready to act if given orders.
Graduation of Border Guard Forces
Other media outlets also covered the Border Guards Force of the Yemeni Armed Forces' graduation ceremony in Sanaa, further disproving claims that the demonstrations were military mobilizations to attack Israel.
Furthermore, no credible news sources reported that the Houthis or the Yemeni Army intend to attack Israel. The Armed Forces, on the other hand, expressed their support for Palestine.
Palestine and Israel Reach a Cease-Fire
The claim began to circulate following an Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip, which killed 44 Palestinians and injured at least 350 others. A ceasefire mediated by Egyptian authorities went into effect on August 7, 2022.
