Emerging story

Social media users have recently widely circulated a video purporting to show the bombing attack in which Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani was killed.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The video dates back to 2020 and shows a blast in an Islamic school in Peshawar, Northern Pakistan.

Misbar’s team found that the video in the circulating claim was uploaded to YouTube in 2020. 

 

Sheikh Haqqani had survived the Peshawar attack, which was claimed by ISIL. The attack had killed at least 7 people and left at least 50 wounded, as reported by the BBC.

Sheikh Haqqani Killed in Kabul

Sheikh Rahimullah Haqqani, a prominent Afghan scholar, was killed in a bombing attack at a seminary in Kabul on August 11, 2022.

According to Reuters, “the attacker detonated explosives hidden in a plastic artificial leg on Thursday, according to officials and Taliban sources.”
