Drought in France
France has recently faced a historic drought that left over 100 municipalities short of potable water. The situation urged the French government to designate a crisis team to find solutions. According to the BBC, “there are fears that the drought - hitting nearly all of mainland France - will reduce crop yields, exacerbating the food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.”
Europe Facing a Historic Drought
Following extreme heatwaves and no considerable rainfall across Europe, drought is rising as a major threat to the continent. The Loire River in France, the Rhine River, and Po River in Italy are all under-replenished. According to The Guardian, meteorologists speculate that the drought might be the worst that Europe faced in the more than 500 years.
