A photo, which purportedly shows a salt mountain in Iran, has recently gone viral on social media.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating photo and found the claim to be misleading. The photo has been digitally altered to make the colors seem more vibrant.
Upon conducting a reverse image search on Google, Misbar's team found the original photo, which has dimmer colors.
Salt Domes of Iran
Although Misbar’s team was unable to geolocate the image, many internet users suggest that it is from the Jashak Salt Dome in Bushehr County in Iran. According to the UNESCO, “the salt domes of Iran are exceptional unique examples of salt tectonic in the world, particularly the salt domes in Fars Province. The salt domes of Gheshm Island are the most unique and characterized salt domes of the world.”
