Social media users and media outlets have recently circulated a series of images that allegedly show the recent floods in Pakistan.

Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading.

Outdated Images of Pakistan Floods

After conducting a thorough investigation of the images, Misbar found the circulating images to be outdated.

The first image shows locals struggling to get food donated by a local charity at Karamdad Qureshi village in the Dera Ghazi Khan district of Punjab province. The image was taken by photographer Reinhard Krause for Reuters on August 21, 2010.

The second outdated image dated back to August 1, 2010. The image shows villagers standing on a rooftop as their house collapsed following floods in Taunsa, near Multan, Pakistan. Photographer Khalid Tanveer captured the image for AP.

The third image is also outdated. The image shows flood victims evacuating their villages in Sukkur located in Pakistan's Sindh province. The image was taken by photographer Akhtar Soomro for Reuters on August 8, 2010.

The fourth image shows personal belongings submerged in flooded water. Misbar searched thoroughly and found that the first date of its publication was August 31, 2020. The image was published on the Water Channel website with an article titled “Another Consecutive Disaster in Sindh"

2022 Floods in Pakistan and Their Impact

Over 1,000 people have been killed and thousands more have been injured in Pakistan since June as a result of flash floods brought on by extreme monsoon rains. Officials say that thousands of people were forced to leave their houses.

One day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested assistance from other countries to deal with the devastation brought on by the floods. There are now more than 33 million displaced people. 

The National Disaster Management Authority recorded 119 deaths in the previous 24 hours on Sunday as intense torrential rains continued to batter portions of the nation. At least 1,033 fatalities and 1,456 injuries have occurred since mid-June. 

Rescuers are having difficulty getting to thousands of stranded people. Pakistan, which has been devastated by floods, now has many areas that became inaccessible due to the damaged infrastructure.
