Clip From a French Documentary
The clip misattributed to Queen Elizabeth II is from an old French documentary film directed by the French Gabriel Ferry. It was filmed in ancient French Indochina, now known as Vietnam, between April 1899 and March 1900.
In the scene, two women—the wife and daughter of French Governor-General Paul Doumer, who led French Indochina from 1897 to 1902—throw coins in front of needy children.
The film, titled "Indochina: Children Gathering Coins Scattered by Western Women," was premiered in 1901 in Lyon, France.
Who Is Paul Doumer?
Gaston, Joseph Athanasi Paul Doumer, also known as Paul Doumer, was the President of France from June 13, 1931, to his murder on May 6, 1932. He served as the governor-general of Indochina between 1897 and 1902.
The Death of Queen Elizabeth II
The video went viral after Buckingham Palace announced the death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022. Her death was officially confirmed hours after her health deteriorated.
Queen Elizabeth II's reign of nearly 70 years in the United Kingdom makes her the longest-ruling monarch in history. She was crowned queen in 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI. Queen Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip, who died in April 2021.
Following the death of the Queen, the monarchy was passed immediately and without ceremony to Crown Prince Charles, the former Prince of Wales.
