Emerging story

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, social media users and pages have widely circulated two photos showing Meghan Markle, and the late Princess Diana dressed alike. It is purported that Markle dressed like the late Princess Diana at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating photo and found the claim to be misleading. Markle’s photo dates back to 2019. Moreover, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II has not taken place yet.

Meghan Markle During the 2019 Remembrance Day 

Upon conducting a reverse image search, Misbar's team found that the viral photo was taken during Remembrance Day in 2019.

What Is Remembrance Day?

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Day commemorates the day World War One ended, at 11am on November 11, in 1918. Each Remembrance Day, a two-minute silence is held at 11am in the U.K. to honor the lives lost during wars. It is customary to wear a poppy flower and dress in Black during Remembrance Day. Politicians and Members of the Royal Family attend memorial services each year to show respect to the memory of the war victims.

The Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth’s funeral will be held on September 19, 2022, at Westminster Abbey after 10 days of national mourning.

The coffin carrying Queen Elizabeth II arrived in the Scottish capital Edinburgh on Sunday September 11. Members of the royal family are expected to accompany the coffin this Monday September 12 when it will be moved along the Royal Mile to St. Giles’ Cathedral.
