In September 2022, social media users began posting a photo purportedly showing Volodymyr Zelenskyy attending a gay parade in New York City in 1999.

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been digitally added to the photo that is making the rounds.
2006 Gay Pride Event
Misbar discovered the original photo on Thomas Locke Hobbs's Flickr page. Hobbs, a photographer based in Los Angeles, uploaded the photo with the caption "Gay Pride 2006."
The photo was taken in New York on June 25, 2006.
However, Misbar was unable to verify Zelenskyy's alleged attendance at the New York Gay Pride event in 2006.
Photoshopped Photos Target Zelenskyy
The Ukrainian president has been the target of misinformation since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This is not the first time a digitally altered photo of Zelenskyy has circulated online.
