Emerging story

A photo purportedly showing Pakistan's ex-PM Imran Khan after a failed assassination attempt has been widely circulated by major media outlets.

The New York Times, The Economist, the Los Angeles Times, CNN, and The Guardian are just a few of the media outlets that have published this photo as part of their coverage of the alleged assassination attempt on Imran Khan.

This photo is old and unrelated to the recent alleged assassination attempt on Imran Khan.

2014 Imran Khan Photo Goes Viral

The photo has been online since August 2014. 

On his official Twitter account, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted the photo with the caption "A Night in Al Dhafra."

The photo was taken at night during Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2014.

Khan demanded Nawaz Sharif's resignation after allegations of "electoral match-fixing."

Furthermore, Sharif's supporters reportedly raided the protest in an attempt to disperse protesters.

Imran Khan’s Assassination Attempt

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was reportedly injured.

Fawad Chaudhry, a spokesperson for Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, tweeted, "It was a well planned assassination attempt on Imran Khan."

Khan was shot with an "automatic weapon," according to Chaudhry.

A gunman shot a vehicle carrying former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and some of his supporters.

According to reports, Khan and his supporters were wounded.

After the attack, the suspect was taken into custody.

Khan was attacked as he drove into Islamabad in a large convoy of trucks and cars as part of his effort to force early elections.
