Emerging story
Social media users and pages have shared posts claiming that Qatar has announced 250 job openings at World Cup 2022 facilities, with a starting salary of 6,000 Qatari Riyals.
According to the circulating posts, tourists could also volunteer during the World Cup for pay and keep their jobs after the event. Meanwhile, other posts suggested that the country only needed 100 employees and provided application links.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake.
The circulating job opportunities are fake and were not announced by official Qatari sources.
The country did not state anything related to an alleged need for 250,000 employees to work at the World Cup facilities, and the call for volunteering was closed.
Misbar reviewed the application links that the posts feature and discovered that they belong to unknown sites and are not reliable Qatari sources.
Qatar’s Call For Volunteering Was Closed
Misbar reviewed official Qatari sources, including the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy organizing the World Cup Qatar 2022, and found no announcement of 250,000 job opportunities.
However, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy announced that last July 31 was the deadline for volunteering applications in relation to the World Cup Qatar 2022.
The committee later stated that they hired 20,000 volunteers from all over the world to help deliver the Arab World's first FIFA World Cup.
They mentioned that volunteers would be at the heart of tournament operations, supporting 45 functional areas in over 30 different roles.
