According to the claim, in his interview with Sky Sports, Ibrahimovic said: “I do not understand why the Algerian team is not in the World Cup. It is the only African team capable of competing with the world teams.”

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. The circulating quote is unsubstantiated and falsely attributed to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

AC Milan's player Zlatan Ibrahimovic did not comment on Algeria’s absence from World Cup 2022 in an interview with Sky Sports. Ibrahimovic also did not publish the statement on his official social media accounts. Moreover, Sky Sports and other sports media outlets did not report the news. 

Misbar’s team checked Sky Sport’s official website and found no recent interviews with Ibrahimovic. The website’s latest content about the Swedish player was unrelated to the World Cup.
