Didier Drogba Did Not Convert to Islam
The ex-footballer responded to rumors of his conversion to Islam in a recent tweet.
The tweet reads, "This story is going viral, but I haven't changed religion."
The claim went viral after Dr. Muhammad Salah shared a photo of the ex-player praying to God in a way similar to Islamic prayer, saying he converted to Islam.
Following Drogba's tweet, the Muslim preacher Mohamed Salah refuted the claim.
Didier Drogba’s Initiative in Favor of Social Cohesion
The claim was made after Didier Drogba visited families in the towns of Niaprahio and Guiberoua in Côte d'Ivoire on November 4, 2022.
During his visit to the two towns, he also posted a series of photos on his official Facebook account.
Who Is Didier Drogba?
Didier Drogba is a former Ivorian striker who retired from the game in 2018. He is the all-time leading scorer and former captain of the Côte d'Ivoire national team.
Drogba is best known for his time at Chelsea, where he scored more goals than any other foreign player and currently ranks fourth of all time. He has been named African Footballer of the Year twice, in 2006 and 2009.
Drogba contributed to his country's peace process and African social issues. He was named a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador and Vice President of Peace and Sport.
