Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. The photo dates back to 2016.
Migrants Boat Capsized Off the Coast of Libya
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team traced the origins of the image to a 2016 incident.
According to Reuters, a wooden fishing boat overcrowded with migrants capsized off the coast of Libya back in May 2016. 562 people were rescued and five were found dead.

Migrants Raft Sinks Off the Coast of Yemen
According to the International Organization for Migration, a boat carrying African migrants sank off the coast of Yemen on October 30, leaving three dead and 28 others declared missing.
The U.N. statement mentioned that this incident highlights the dangers of this kind of migration routes: “Migrants take arduous journeys facilitated by smugglers, who subject them to dangers including boat journeys on overcrowded and unseaworthy vessels as well as exploitation, abuse and violence.”
