Emerging story
Social media users and pages have recently widely circulated a claim alleging that Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his regret for leaving Real Madrid in his interview with Piers Morgan.
According to the claim Ronaldo said: “Leaving R. Madrid? Biggest regret of my career. I had respect there, I had love there. If I went back in time, I would play there for free. I should never have left the biggest club in the world. They treated me like a king.”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the widely shared claim and found it to be fake. Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo did not make such a statement.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Interview with Piers Morgan
In an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo made several statements that triggered debates. Ronaldo explicitly expressed his disdain for Manchester United’s hierarchy.
In the first clip released, Ronaldo expressed that he feels "betrayed" by several individuals at Manchester United. The team’s manager is part of that group, according to Ronaldo.
When Morgan asked Ronaldo: "You feel like you're being forced out?" Ronaldo replied: "Yes. Not only the coach, but a few other two or three guys there around the club."
"I felt that some people don't want me here, not only this year but last year too," added Ronaldo.
Ronaldo also scathingly criticized Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag, who took over the job this summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was let go.
"I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me," Ronaldo said regarding Ten Hag. "If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you," he added.
However, Ronaldo did not express any regrets for leaving Real Madrid.
Piers Morgan Refutes the Circulating Claim
The British journalist Piers Morgan has personally refuted the circulating claim after it went viral online. Morgan asserted that the circulating quote is fake and falsely attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo.
