A photo that allegedly shows an English football fan at a FIFA world cup Qatar 2022 match has recently gone viral. The fan in the image has a tattoo on his belly that reads “More importantly, free Palestine.”
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. The photo has been digitally edited.
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the original photo dates back to 2016. As can be seen below, the fan in the original photo does not have a “Free Palestine” tattoo.

During the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, several videos and photos shared online have shown global solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Both football teams and football fans have sent messages of solidarity with Palestinians.
Moroccan players proudly waved the Palestinian flag.
English football fans also shared messages of solidarity with Palestinians during TV interviews.

The FIFA World Cup is being held in an Arab country for the first time in history.
