While some allege that the video shows Taliban’s first public execution of a woman in Afghanistan, others purport that it shows a recent flogging of a woman because she went out without a male chaperon.

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading. The video dates back to at least 2020.
Taliban Tribunal Lashes a Woman for Talking to a Man on the Phone
After conducting a reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the video dates back to at least 2020.
According to a 2021 article published by France 24, “This footage is from late 2020, though it hasn’t been possible to determine the precise date the incident occured. This date range was confirmed by the governor of Herat on April 15. The video was first posted online on April 13, sparking widespread shock and outrage.”
Several media articles confirm that the incident took place in Haftgola near Herat in the Obe district.

Taliban’s First Public Execution Since Taking Over Afghanistan
The claim is circulating after Taliban carried out the first public execution since taking over Afghanistan.
A man accused of fatally stabbing another man in 2017, was publicly executed in western Farah province, said Taliban's spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.
The man convicted of murder was shot three times by his victim's father.
