48 Teams Might Compete for World Cup 2026
During a press conference which took place on December 16 in Doha, FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke about the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Infantino discussed the possibility of increasing the number of teams participating in the World Cup from 32 to 48: “So, we have to revisit and discuss if that goes ahead, that is something that will be on the agenda in the next meetings. It is something we need to discuss, whether 16 groups of three or 12 groups of four are better.”
Club World Cup 2025
On December 16, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the launch of a new version of the Club World Cup, with the participation of 32 teams, as opposed to the current eight teams. The first edition will take place in 2025.
"We had agreed a few years ago to have a new 24-team men's Club World Cup. It should have taken place in 2021 but was postponed because of Covid," the FIFA president said.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced that Morocco will host the next Club World Cup in February as the planned expanded version of the competition is now set to start in 2025.

The World Cup was held in an Arab country for the first time in history.
The tournament, which kicked off with 32 teams competing, will come to an end on December 18.
France will face Argentina in the final match.
