Social media users claimed that Kylian Mbappé was the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be fake. Kylian Mbappé is not the first player to score a hat trick.
In England's 4-2 victory over West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final, Geoff Hurst became the first player in the World Cup history to score a hat trick.
Mbappé Won the Golden Boot
At the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Kylian Mbappé was awarded the Adidas Golden Boot. In the meantime, Lionel Messi won the Silver Boot, and Olivier Giroud, thanks to his four goals, won the Bronze Boot.
Mbappé scored a hat trick in the final and finished with five goals overall (three in the group stage and two in the knockout phase). The French team were eliminated in the penalty shootout.
Mbappé is the first Frenchman to win the award in 64 years, and only the second player to score more than six goals since 1974.
Geoff Hurst himself sent his congratulations to the player in a tweet right after the match. “Many congratulations to Mbappe, whatever happens. I've had a great run!”
