Social media users and pages widely shared a video that allegedly shows fans chanting in celebration of Argentina’s victory outside the house of Messi’s grandma.
“She's Messi's grandmother,” the crowd sang during the celebrations of the victory of the Argentine National Team against Croatia in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading. Both of Messi’s grandmothers have passed away. The lady in this video is not his grandmother.
Messi’s Grandmother
According to the Argentine news website “Infobae,” Messi’s maternal grandmother is called Celia, and she passed away in 1998. His paternal grandmother, Rosa María Pérez, also passed away.
Moreover, “Telenoche” has interviewed the lady in the viral video and confirmed that she is not related to Lionel Messi.
The 79 Olga has been honorarily described as Messi’s grandmother in Messi’s hometown Rosario, Argentina.
“I am proud of Argentina's victory. Everything was so nice, I did not expect it,” she told the journalist.
