The Star of Bethlem will be visible in the sky on December 21, 2022.
Many social media users recently shared a claim purporting that the Star of Bethlem will be visible in the sky on December 21, 2022.
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. No reliable source reported anything out of the ordinary in the sky on December 21, 2022.
However, on December 21, 2020, Jupiter and Saturn aligned, and some referred to the alignments as the “Star of Bethlem.”
The Star of Bethlem
The story of the Star of Bethlehem is mentioned in the Book of Matthew. According to the Gospel, a bright star appeared in the eastern sky when Jesus was born.
While there is no scientific consensus on what the Star of Bethlehem was, many believe that it a conjunction of several planets.
The claim is circulating as the winter solstice takes place on December 21.
Also called hibernal solstice, winter solstice marks the moment during the year when the path of the Sun in the sky is farthest south in the Northern Hemisphere (December 21 or 22).
The day is celebrated by different cultures across the globe.
