Photo of Messi on the Treadmill Watching His Highlights Is Old

Misbar has investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. 

The image is old and predates the World Cup Qatar 2022.

Old Image Resurfaced Online

The image that resurfaced right after Argentina won the World Cup title for the 22nd edition of the tournament turned out to be old. 

The image of Messi on a treadmill watching his highlights was already posted to Reddit in 2019 with the caption: “Messi watching Messi's goals.”

The image was also published by websites three years ago. Tribuna posted the picture on December 30, 2019, and wrote: “The Argentine was spotted training and watching his best goals of the year compilation in the background.”

“As a reminder, Messi is allowed to return to the training ground on January 2. Until then, it's assumed that the Argentine will spend some time with his family in his hometown Rosario,” the website added.

The picture later surfaced on many occasions. It also has been altered to be the subject of satirical content.

Messi Starred as Argentina Won the World Cup

The Argentine player starred on the pitch as Argentina finally lifted their third Cup. 

The 35-year-old player made history in the World Cup final as he broke the record for tournament appearances, winning his first World Cup title.

It was Messi’s 26th World Cup appearance, moving him ahead of Germany legend Lothar Matthaus who made 25 appearances for his country at football's biggest tournament.
